Date: Saturday 13 July, 2019

Time: 9:00am - 4:30pm

WORKSHOPS

TEA has partnered with experienced industry experts to offer two hands on workshops for teachers implementing the Stage 5 and 6 Food Technology, Design and Technology and Stage 4 Technology (Mandatory) syllabuses.

Through participation in these workshops, teachers will be able to develop and extend their knowledge and skills related to food/agricultural technologies and industry practices, to enhance their current teaching strategies to create high quality and meaningful learning activities for their students, and there will also be opportunity for networking with colleagues.

Morning Workshop

When Life Gives You Lemons - Cornersmith

Venue: Cornersmith Picklery, Marrickville

Focus is upon sustainable food practices including the use of seasonal produce and reducing food waste. In this workshop our Cornersmith expert will be using a range of food preservation techniques to make both sweet and savoury products from winter's lemon harvest. These skills and knowledge can be applied to various food and agricultural technology units of work and design projects.

Teachers will make and take home - Indian lemon pickle, sweet lemon jam, classic preserved lemons, lemon infused salts and sugars. Plus learn about limoncello.

Afternoon Workshop

Beeswax Wraps - Kirsty Mootz @parva.little.things

Venue: The Aerie, St Peters

Take a step closer to living more sustainably. Beeswax Food Wraps are a low impact and more sustainable alternative to plastic cling wrap. They're washable, freezeable and reusable plus they look great! In this workshop Kirsty will teach how to make eco-friendly food wraps, where to source wax, upcycling of fabrics and how to care for these products to make them last longer.

Teachers will make and take home away two wraps, and be given an instructional booklet outlining new skills to make classroom delivery easy.
