The Texstyle Teacher Workshop Day provides an opportunity to engage with HSC Major Projects, folios and experienced senior Textiles and Design teachers and experts.
The Workshop Day will focus on the development and production of the Major Textiles Project, with a focus on proficiency, creativity and innovation in relation to the Stage 6 Textiles and Design Syllabus and Marking Guidelines

Embellishments and painting with thread and acrylic
The workshop will be a journey of discovery as you explore the magical way indigo works on fabric. The beauty and mystery is indigo’s reaction with oxygen, leading to various wonderful shades of this exquisite blue. It’s immediacy creates wonder. Cath will also provide many samples from which inspiration can be gathered. Cathleen will also show you how to use a bleaching technique to edit marks and add points of interest to your work.

Abstract Embellishment and Embroidery
The workshop will be will cover;
- Discussion of materials that can be used for embroidered embellishments - properties, uses, textural differences, durability, with sample embroidery pieces
- How to find resources and materials in an economical way for student/personal use
- Principles of design within the context of the abstract embellishment of textiles - colour selection, repetition of form and stitch style, creating cohesion in abstract design
- Sustainability - considerations with the use of recycled materials and remnants
- Demonstration of stitches and material use, with guided practice for attendees, covering French knots, Long and short stitch, Needle weaving, Turkey stitch, Fabric and bead embellishment
- Additional resources - digital copies of stitch guide, materials list and suppliers list
Participants will take home a showcase of stitches, stitching and stitchery!
Angelo Benn: Squircle Designs
Presenter Bio
Embark on a journey to enhance your design and drawing for using the laser cutter to increase productivity, and maximise your time and projects with Squircle Learning. Understanding and applying these processes covered from the design stage to execution is essential for achieving high-quality results in your projects. The workshop is intended for teachers with a basic design and computer software understanding.
By the end of the course, you will be confident, well-informed, and empowered to use Adobe Illustrator or similar software to create project designs with your laser cutter, tablet or sublimation printer. Angelo will have at the workshop industry representatives with tablets, printers and presses.
Participants must have Adobe Illustrator on their laptops with a mouse. – NO ADOBE EXPRESS for this workshop
You will also develop practical skills in:
Working with templates and navigating workspaces
- Using and customising toolbars
- Creating shapes, tracing and working with text
- Adapting artwork and manipulating designs
- Applying effects to enhance designs.
These practical skills will enable you to gain confidence to seamlessly apply your knowledge to your laser projects and the curriculum, significantly improving productivity and project outcomes.

Holly Siles: TAFE NSW Fashion Design Studio
Presenter Bio
Holly has worked as a designer in the fashion industry for over 18 years. She brings extensive experience and deep industry knowledge to the classroom. Holly has won numerous awards throughout her career.
Holly will take you through a variety of fashion design development techniques and teach you how to render different fabric textures using a variety of media.
Denise Lithgow: NSW Embroidery Guild
Presenter Bio
3D Felted Vessel - Vessels such as vases and bowls are both ancient and familiar “everyday” forms.
Design and create a unique sculptural vessel using pure merino wool in this inspiring creative workshop.
Textile artist Denise Lithgow will guide you through the process of making and moulding felt into innovative forms and shapes. You’ll learn how to form shapes and translate these into three-dimensional non-functional vessels.
You’ll have the opportunity to explore works from her collection, or you can bring your own photos for inspiration.
Suitable for beginners to experienced felters. No drawing skills required.
