Session Overview:
This practical session will provide teachers of adult EAL/D learners with the basic tools to teach word stress, sentence stress and thought groups (chunks) to their learners. This session is suitable for all teachers, but especially for those with limited experience teaching pronunciation to their students (or for those interested in learning more!). Techniques and tips for teaching a range of adult learners, from beginning level to advanced levels of English proficiency, will be demonstrated and discussed. These demonstrations will include an array of visual, audio, and tactile/kinesthetic techniques.

Associate Professor Amanda Baker, School of Education, The University of Wollongong
Presenter Bio:
Amanda Baker teaches in the TESOL programme at the University of Wollongong. Her research interests focus on the dynamic relationships that exist between L2 teachers’ knowledge, beliefs and teaching practices, especially in the areas of L2 pronunciation, speaking and listening pedagogy. She has published and presented widely on aspects related to L2 learners’ pronunciation development and teachers’ professional growth in relation to teaching pronunciation.
